Many women feel the need to bounce back quickly after having a baby, it’s not surprising we are bombarded with pictures and stories celebrating women losing all their baby weight in just a few months. What we see on the outside doesn’t always represent what is happening on the inside. If we rush preparing the foundations of our house and jump to putting the wallpaper to soon, it just won’t hold.

I’ve been working with postnatal women for almost 10 years supporting their recovery and those who go slow and steady often end up feeling stronger than they did pre-babies. As women we go through huge hormonal shifts and when we arrive at menopause, the work we will have put in on those foundations will stand us in good stead.

The problem is that we don’t have much after care here postnatally. It’s a 6 week check and we are often given the green light to do whatever we want.

Fortunately there is a network of professionals out there supporting women to recover postnatally, to educate how you actually rehab your body post birth before you go back to running and your HIIT class. You are allowed to take your time, put the deep work in first and you’ll get back to it.

If you are dealing with a prolapse or diastasis recti exercises will be safe and supportive to you. The Restore Your Core method is designed with anyone who is experiencing a core issue in mind and focuses on supporting you to retrain your pelvic floor muscles to be functional, reflexive responsive and supportive to your body.

If you are early days postnatal we’ll focus on the basics of breath work, easing out tension and aches and pains, rest and intro to core engagement for the first 3 sessions. In any following classes  we’ll begin to add load safely integrating functional movement, refining core engagement to help set you up for the next stage of your recovery.
